How to Convert JPG to PNG
Turn a JPG into a lossless PNG for editing and archiving. Step-by-step online, on Windows and on Mac.
JPG files are great for photos but they are compressed and lose data every time they are saved. Converting a JPG to PNG gives you a lossless copy that keeps every pixel exactly as it is. This guide covers when it is useful and how to do it in seconds.
Why convert JPG to PNG?

- You are building a graphic that will be saved and re-opened many times — PNG never degrades.
- You are about to edit an image in software that rounds values; working from PNG keeps the source clean.
- You need transparency added later in an editor (note: converting a JPG to PNG does not create transparency for you — a JPG has no transparency to begin with).

The trade-off to know
