How to Convert HEIC to JPG (iPhone Photos)
Convert iPhone HEIC files to JPG on Windows, Mac and online — three easy methods, plus how to make your camera save JPG in the first place.
Apple uses HEIC (also written HEIF) for photos taken on iPhone and modern Macs. The format is efficient — it stores the same image at a much smaller size than JPG — but many apps, Windows computers and email clients cannot open it. Here is how to convert your HEIC photos to JPG quickly.
Option 1: Use the online converter (fastest)
The HEIC to JPG converter runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded:
- Open the converter page.
- Select the HEIC files (you can pick several at once).
- Choose a JPG quality level if you want smaller files.
- Download the JPGs one by one or all of them as a ZIP.

Option 2: Change your iPhone camera settings
If you want to stop shooting in HEIC altogether:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Go to Camera → Formats.
- Choose Most Compatible.

Option 3: Convert on your computer with a built-in app
- On a Mac, open the HEIC file in Preview, choose File → Export, pick JPEG and click Save. You can also convert several photos at once by selecting them in Finder and using *Quick Actions → Convert Image*.
- On Windows, right-click the file and choose Open with → Paint, then File → Save as → JPEG. Windows 10/11 also offers a free *HEIF Image Extensions* package from the Microsoft Store that lets you open HEIC in the Photos app directly.
FAQ
Does converting to JPG reduce quality? The image data inside a HEIC file is large and high quality. Re-encoding to JPG at 85–90% quality produces an image that looks the same to the eye while keeping the file small.
Is it legal to convert my own photos? Yes — you are converting files you own. The tool deletes nothing on your phone and works only on the copies you provide.
Why is switching to JPG useful in general? JPG is the most widely supported image format on the web, in email and in office software, so converted files open everywhere without codecs.
