Why are GIFs so large?
Every frame of a GIF stores its own image data, so animations with many full-size frames balloon quickly. Reducing the number of colors and dropping a few frames are the fastest ways to compress a GIF.
What is a good color count?
256 is the GIF maximum. Most cartoons and logos look identical at 128 or even 64 colors, while smooth photo-like gradients may need the full 256.
Does resizing a GIF keep the animation?
Yes. This tool decodes every frame, redraws it at the new size, and rebuilds the animation. The playback speed is preserved.
Are large GIFs processed on my device?
Yes, GIF decoding and encoding happen locally. Very large or very long GIFs may take a few seconds per frame but nothing is uploaded.
